West Ranch Girls’ Basketball Claims Victory in Foothill League Opener

UPDATE: The West Ranch girls’ basketball team clinched a thrilling victory against Golden Valley, winning 26-20 in their Foothill League opener on December 2, 2025, at West Ranch High School. The Wildcats, now boasting a record of 7-1, 1-0, showcased remarkable teamwork and defensive prowess throughout the game.

In a standout performance, freshman guard Mia Vallas led the Wildcats with an impressive 16 points, including two crucial three-pointers. Vallas’s performance was a focal point, as her head coach, Paul Gross, praised her teammates for creating opportunities that allowed her to shine. “She did a great job… played her butt off,” Gross stated post-game, highlighting the team effort that secured the win.

West Ranch’s defense was a key factor, as the Wildcats outscored Golden Valley in all four quarters. Freshman forward Arianna Corona also contributed significantly, adding 12 points to the scoreboard. “We battled the whole game,” Gross noted, emphasizing the aggressive and attacking play of his team.

Golden Valley’s Brighton Blythe was a bright spot for the Grizzlies, scoring 13 points on a 6-for-13 shooting performance. Despite the loss, Blythe’s efforts showcased the potential for a competitive season ahead as the Grizzlies look to bounce back. They will have a bye this Friday but are set to return next Tuesday at home against Castaic.

This victory marks a strong start for the Wildcats in a challenging league, and they will look to build on this momentum when they face the Castaic Coyotes next. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday.

As the Foothill League continues to heat up, other teams also posted significant scores. Saugus defeated Castaic 73-32, led by EvaMarie Rios with a double-double of 20 points and 10 assists. Meanwhile, Canyon triumphed over Hart 56-27, with Darby Dunn netting 27 points and securing a double-double.
