Jaguar’s Type 00 Makes Bold Return with Luxury Redesign

UPDATE: Jaguar’s extravagant Type 00 concept car has re-emerged in a stunning new look, just as the luxury brand pivots to a high-end market. The eye-catching coupe made headlines today after being showcased outside a prestigious hotel in London to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the iconic 1935 SS Jaguar.

The Type 00, which emphasizes Jaguar’s shift toward competing with luxury giants like Bentley instead of traditional rivals such as BMW, turned heads with its new coat: a striking London Red matte finish. This dramatic reappearance comes amidst reports that parent company Tata Motors has dismissed design chief Gerry McGovern.

Why does this matter NOW? Jaguar’s decision to highlight the Type 00 raises questions about its future as the brand plans to focus on a new customer base, with managing director Rawdon Glover revealing that 85 percent of future buyers will be new to the brand. The company is set to release the production version of the Type 00, initially expected by the end of this year, but now delayed to 2026. Deliveries are still slated to begin before the end of next year.

The Type 00 stands out in a field of prestigious vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a Bentley Bentayga, and even a Bugatti Chiron. Its eye-catching design is sure to spark conversations and debates, as it is a bold departure from Jaguar’s previous offerings. The final production model is expected to adopt a flatter roofline and rear doors, transitioning towards a sleek sedan appearance while retaining its long hood.

Jaguar is making a calculated move, with the Type 00 starting at an estimated $130,000, comparable to the Porsche Taycan 4S. This price point reflects the brand’s commitment to higher-end luxury, moving away from its previous market. The upcoming models, including an SUV, will be fully electric, marking the end of combustion engines as the F-Pace is set to be discontinued in 2026.

As Jaguar forges ahead, Glover promises that the new EV will “create a real visceral reaction,” aiming to attract a new clientele to the luxury market. The company has already discontinued all other models except the F-Pace, signaling a bold, new direction.

Stay tuned for updates as Jaguar gears up for the Type 00’s official debut in the coming years. This could reshape the luxury car landscape and redefine the Jaguar brand.
