URGENT UPDATE: A tragic collision between a Metrolink train and a vehicle near Camarillo has resulted in the death of one man. Authorities confirm the incident occurred around 2 p.m. on December 18, 2023, prompting a swift response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
According to CHP spokesperson Ryan Ayala, the deceased was an elderly man driving a Honda Ridgeline truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was registered to an address in Port Hueneme, but further details about the driver remain undisclosed.
Metrolink’s public relations manager, Meredith Yeoman, reported that Train 118 struck the vehicle while it was on the tracks between the Oxnard and Camarillo stations. Fortunately, all 14 passengers aboard the train were unharmed. However, the train remained at the scene as of 5 p.m., causing significant disruption.
In response to the accident, several Metrolink trains have been canceled, affecting commuters in the area. As investigations continue, Fifth Street in Camarillo has been closed between Las Posas and Pleasant Valley, further complicating local traffic.
