Chico Gingerbread Contest Kicks Off with Sweet Architectural Creations

UPDATE: The inaugural Chico Community Gingerbread House Contest is underway, showcasing edible architectural marvels at the Museum of Northern California Art. The competition features seven entries, crafted by participants ranging from children as young as six to seasoned adults, all competing for top honors.

This unique contest, inspired by the renowned National Gingerbread House Competition in Asheville, North Carolina, is set to announce its winners today, July 15, 2023, during a special reception from 3 to 4 p.m.. Attendees can expect a delightful display of creativity, with structures such as the El Rey Theater, a childhood home, a haunted chapel, and a fantastical sugar wonderland.

According to Pat Macias, Executive Director of the museum, each creation is at least 80% edible, highlighting the delicious craftsmanship involved. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries, awarding prizes for best in category, best overall, and a coveted people’s choice award.

This sweet competition not only showcases culinary skills but also brings the community together, with involvement from local leaders like Jodi Drysdale and Pam Young, who played pivotal roles in organizing the event.

Don’t miss this chance to see these imaginative gingerbread houses and support local artists. With the reception just hours away, excitement is building as spectators look forward to tasting the creativity and celebrating the winners. Stay tuned for updates as the results are revealed!
