URGENT UPDATE: The beloved Festival of Lights at Children’s Wonderland Park in Vallejo is set to conclude this weekend, with its final two days on December 16-17, 2023. Families have only a few more chances to experience the enchanting holiday displays, running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening.
This annual tradition has captivated Vallejoans for decades, transforming the park into a magical realm filled with dazzling lights and festive cheer. This year, the park embraces a whimsical Dr. Seuss “Whoville” theme, underlining the spirit of community and togetherness that the holiday season embodies.
As you enter the park, you’ll be greeted by a stunning 12-foot-tall tree, adorned with colorful bows and twinkling lights. Visitors can stroll through illuminated passageways, admire shimmering arches, and enjoy the sight of inflatable Christmas characters scattered throughout the park. For those feeling the chill, hot cocoa and ice cream are available at concessions, ensuring that everyone can indulge in seasonal treats.
Families have flocked to the park throughout the month, with Recreation Leader Agatha Alansalon noting the importance of these gatherings. “It’s pretty sweet to see — the big families all coming together,” she expressed, highlighting the emotional connections made during this time. The park is especially vibrant after sunset, making it easier for parents to join after their workday ends.
Alansalon shared her joy in watching children’s reactions as they discover the holiday spirit within the park. “Just seeing their faces light up — that’s got to be the best,” she said, emphasizing that the magic of the lights is truly for the children. They light up with excitement upon seeing the towering tree and festive decorations.
Though recent rain has impacted attendance, the Festival of Lights remains a must-see event in its closing days. “It is better when it’s not raining,” Alansalon acknowledged, as the weather has caused some decorations to be displaced. However, the park is still a stunning sight, offering families a final opportunity to create lasting memories this holiday season.
With the Festival of Lights coming to a close, now is the time to visit and soak in the festive atmosphere one last time. Don’t miss out on this cherished Vallejo tradition as it wraps up for another year!
