Immaculata Secures Championship at Holmdel Tournament with Five Titles

Immaculata High School has claimed victory at the Holmdel Tournament, finishing first with a total of 209.5 points and securing five individual titles. The team, ranked No. 16 in the NJ.com Top 20, showcased their strength and skill, highlighted by impressive performances from their wrestlers.

Among the standout competitors were Forest Rose, who triumphed in the 106-pound category, and Trevin Highton, who dominated in the 165-pound final. Both secured pins in their respective matches, contributing significantly to Immaculata’s overall score.

Holmdel High School finished in second place with 198 points. Their success was bolstered by Sayan Rao, who won a closely contested 7-4 decision against Lucas Loffredo in the final at 113 pounds. Additionally, Dylan Placca earned a title at 138 pounds with a decisive 4-0 victory over Derek Sutphen from Immaculata.

Toms River North secured third place with 156 points, despite not winning any individual titles. Wrestlers John Yannariello and James Mauti both reached the finals but fell short of championship victories. Raritan rounded out the top four, finishing with 155 points and a notable win by Owen Brackett, who captured a major decision at 132 pounds.

The tournament included a competitive field, with other teams such as Sayreville, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Barnegat, and Hamilton West also making strong showings.

The Holmdel Tournament not only highlighted individual talents but also underscored the depth of competition in high school wrestling across the region. With this victory, Immaculata has solidified its position as a formidable force in the sport, setting the stage for future competitions.
