Community Mourns the Passing of Fredrick Leon Jackson

Fredrick Leon Jackson, a beloved member of the Morgantown community, passed away on December 19, 2025. He was born on March 31, 1938, to the late James Jackson, Sr., and Golden Greene Jackson in Osage, West Virginia. Fredrick was part of a large family, one of eleven children, and he is survived by his wife, Emma Lindsay, and three children.

Fredrick’s life was marked by both personal triumphs and challenges. He attended Monongalia High School in Westover until the school integrated in 1954. He later transferred to University High School but left after two years to join the United States Air Force. During his service, he was stationed at several bases in Texas. It was there that he met and married Fronia Mae Deal, with whom he had three children. However, the marriage did not last, leading Fredrick back to his hometown of Morgantown.

Upon returning, Fredrick rekindled a relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Emma Lindsay, and they married on May 29, 1966. Fredrick became an active member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Jerome Park, where he was ordained as a deacon in February 1973. He also contributed to the church choir and volunteered to cook for various church events, showcasing his culinary skills, particularly with roasts and other meats.

Fredrick was known for his diverse talents and his passion for carpentry. He was considered a “Jack-of-all-Trades.” He designed and renovated his own home and crafted furniture for his family, including beds for himself and his son. His professional career included work with multiple construction companies in Morgantown, where his craftsmanship left a lasting impact.

In addition to his work, Fredrick enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing, hunting, cooking, and sewing. He actively participated in the Mended Hearts Children’s Camp, where he shared his love for children, often referring to neighborhood kids as “his own.” His favorite quote, “Strangers are friends he hadn’t met,” reflected his open-hearted nature and his ability to connect with others.

Fredrick’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Lewis Lindsay and Frederick Leon Jackson, Jr., and his daughter, Gladys Evette Jackson. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with a large extended family.

Friends and family are invited to gather on December 30 from 11 a.m. until the Homegoing Services at 12 noon in the Fred Jenkins Chapel of Prayer. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Claudette Dale. Following the service, Fredrick will be laid to rest at the Beverly Hills Cemetery, with honors conducted by the Westover VFW Post 9916 and the U.S. Air Force Joint Base Andrews.

Fredrick Leon Jackson lived a life rich in love, laughter, and community service. His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. For more information, visit the funeral home’s website at www.fredjenkinsfuneralhome.com.
