Staten Island High School Basketball Teams Surge in Wildwood Action

UPDATE: In a thrilling day of high school basketball action at the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood, New Jersey, Staten Island teams showcased their talent and determination. St. Joseph by-the-Sea clinched a narrow 47-45 victory over St. Michael Catholic, while MSIT edged past CSIM with a score of 74-68.

Just moments ago, Nick Rebracca delivered an outstanding performance for St. Joseph by-the-Sea, scoring a game-high 27 points. His contributions included a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, crucial in the tightly contested fourth quarter. “Nick showed his ability to score in a variety of ways today in a much-needed win for us,” praised Sea head coach Mike Cortese.

In a dramatic turn, St. Joseph held an eight-point lead after the first quarter but faced a fierce comeback from St. Michael, who outscored them in the third quarter. However, key plays from Nick Lee and Joey Moran in the final minutes helped secure the win, bringing Sea’s record to 7-4 overall.

Meanwhile, MSIT triumphed in a nail-biter, with Ray Guerriero leading the way with a season-high 20 points. The Seagulls regrouped after trailing at halftime to dominate the second half, ultimately securing the victory. “Tough win against a tough team,” stated MSIT coach Charlie Donohue.

On another front, Monsignor Farrell faced a setback in Daytona, Florida, falling to Lake Howell with a score of 49-35. Despite a strong start, the Lions couldn’t maintain their momentum, managing just two points in a critical third quarter. This loss snapped Farrell’s five-game win streak, leaving them eager for a bounce-back game against Winter Haven on Tuesday at 11:30 AM.

In the same showcase, SIA maintained their perfect record, improving to 10-0 after defeating Petrides 75-67. Leading the Tigers was Danny Nowak with 19 points, supported by teammates Gabe Moschella and Luke DeVito with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Petrides’ Daynell Rowland fought valiantly, scoring 31 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome SIA’s strong first half.

As all teams look ahead, MSIT prepares to face Pennsbury HS at 1 PM on Tuesday, while SIA anticipates a tough matchup against perennial ACIS power Packer Collegiate next week.

With intense competition and unexpected twists, these high school teams are proving their mettle on the court, and fans are eager to see how the season unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates on Staten Island basketball!
