Stefon Diggs Denies Assault Allegations Amid Legal Battle

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces serious legal challenges following allegations of assault and strangulation. Court documents from the Dedham District Court indicate the charges stem from an incident on December 2, 2023. The allegations were made by a woman who was employed as a private chef for Diggs.

According to the police report, the woman claimed that during a discussion about payment, Diggs became aggressive. She alleged that he struck her across the face and attempted to choke her using his elbow. The report details that the woman felt she had difficulty breathing during the encounter. Following the incident, she sought assistance from law enforcement on December 16, expressing her desire to pursue criminal charges.

In a statement to the media, attorney David Meier, representing Diggs, firmly denied the allegations, describing them as “unsubstantiated” and suggesting they were motivated by a financial dispute between the chef and Diggs. “Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law,” Meier stated, emphasizing that Diggs did not engage in any form of wrongdoing.

The police narrative reveals that the incident occurred after a disagreement regarding payment for services rendered. The chef had worked for Diggs during a period when he had guests at his home and later sought compensation for that time. Reports indicate that when she returned to retrieve her belongings, Diggs directed her to his assistant, who informed her that payment was contingent on signing a non-disclosure agreement, which she declined.

Diggs is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on January 23, 2024, just two days before the AFC Championship Game. His legal team has indicated intentions to seek a postponement of the arraignment date. Attorney Michael DiStefano, also part of Diggs’ defense, has requested that the police report be sealed to protect the privacy of all parties involved.

The New England Patriots have acknowledged the situation, confirming that Diggs has informed them of his denial regarding the allegations. “Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” the team stated.

The NFL has also released a statement acknowledging awareness of the situation, indicating that they are in contact with the Patriots but will not provide additional comments at this time.

Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, signed a three-year contract with the Patriots prior to the current season. In his first season with the team, he has recorded 970 receiving yards and four touchdowns over 16 games. Recently, Diggs welcomed a child with music artist Cardi B.

As the legal proceedings unfold, both the NFL and the Patriots have committed to cooperating with the investigation. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Diggs’ career, especially given the timing of the allegations in relation to the upcoming playoff game.
