Texas Launches Week of Prayer to Combat Human Trafficking

First Lady Cecilia Abbott has initiated a significant campaign to combat human trafficking in Texas. The Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) initiative has commenced its sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking, running from January 5 to January 11, 2025. This interfaith observance is part of the state’s ongoing efforts during Human Trafficking Prevention Month, aiming to unite communities in prayer and action against the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

In her announcement, First Lady Abbott emphasized the strength found in collective action. “Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action,” she stated, recognizing the vital role that faith-based organizations play in addressing this critical issue. She encouraged Texans to dedicate time during the week to support GRACE’s mission to protect those at risk of exploitation and advocate for the rights of victims.

The Week of Prayer incorporates daily themes that focus on various aspects of human trafficking. Each day is dedicated to specific prayer intentions, including raising community awareness, supporting trauma-informed investigations, and fostering healing for survivors. This comprehensive approach not only addresses legal aspects but also acknowledges the emotional support needed for victims. Participants are encouraged to pray for actionable intelligence and the strengthening of justice system personnel involved in addressing these crimes.

In addition to the prayer initiative, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) has taken steps to enhance community engagement. Commissioner Audrey O’Neill and DFPS Director of Human Trafficking Blanca Lance have called for widespread participation in the Week of Prayer. They also announced the release of the 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month guide, which outlines educational opportunities and resources designed to empower communities in the fight against human trafficking.

As the week unfolds, state officials hope that the combined efforts of prayer and community involvement will provide not only comfort to victims but also disrupt the cycle of trafficking. First Lady Abbott and other leaders express a firm belief in the power of solidarity to effect meaningful change. Texas exemplifies a commitment to eradicating human trafficking, demonstrating that efforts extend beyond prayer into actionable support for those who seek justice and refuge.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of community involvement in addressing human trafficking. By uniting faith-based organizations and state resources, Texas aims to create a more informed and proactive society that stands firmly against exploitation and advocates for the rights of all individuals.
