Greenberg Traurig, LLP has successfully represented Vistra, a leading Fortune 500 integrated retail electricity and power generation company, in securing a significant 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Meta. This agreement aims to provide over 2,600 megawatts of zero-carbon nuclear energy sourced from three of Vistra’s plants located in the PJM region.
The announcement of this agreement, which has garnered support from several public officials including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and U.S. Senators Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Dave McCormick (R-Pa.), highlights a commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The arrangement encompasses both existing generation capacity of 2,176 megawatts and an additional 433 megawatts from planned nuclear uprates.
Impact on Jobs and Local Economies
Iskender “Alex” H. Catto served as the legal advisor for Vistra during this pivotal transaction. The agreements are expected to ensure the continued operation and future expansion of Vistra’s Beaver Valley, Davis-Besse, and Perry nuclear power plants. By committing to these long-term PPAs, Vistra aims to maintain and create thousands of jobs while fostering economic growth within the local communities.
These agreements are set to commence in late 2026, with the full capacity anticipated to come online by 2034. The strategic partnership with Meta not only represents a significant move towards renewable energy but also reinforces Vistra’s investment in clean energy infrastructure.
