Equest Seeks Volunteers to Transform Lives in Dallas

Equest, a prominent equine-assisted therapeutic center in Dallas, is actively seeking volunteers to support its impactful programs. The organization relies on hundreds of dedicated individuals each year to help enhance the lives of its clients through equine therapy. To kick off the New Year, Equest will host volunteer training sessions on January 24 and January 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at its facility located at Texas Horse Park, southeast of downtown Dallas.

Prospective volunteers only need to attend one of the training sessions. Those aged 12 and 13 must be accompanied by a guardian. Interested individuals are encouraged to complete the volunteer application in advance, which can be found on Equest’s website at equest.org/volunteer/.

Volunteers at Equest can choose from a variety of roles that align with their personal interests and goals. Whether individuals are passionate about working with horses, engaging with children, or providing administrative support, there are numerous pathways for involvement. By participating in Equest’s volunteer training, individuals can begin a rewarding journey of community service and personal development.

Equest provides vital services to over 800 clients, including children, adults, and veterans. The center conducts more than 4,000 session hours annually, caring for over 30 therapy horses that deliver transformative therapeutic experiences. Volunteers contribute over 20,000 hours each year, supporting more than 1,500 individuals through community outreach programs and equine-assisted learning. Additionally, Equest teaches 400 students through its Reading Quest literacy program.

Volunteer roles include two key positions: leaders and side-walkers. Leaders are responsible for managing the horse’s pace, calmness, and focus, allowing clients to engage as fully as possible. This role is ideal for those with horse experience or those eager to learn. Side-walkers provide direct support to clients, reinforcing instructions, offering encouragement, and ensuring safety during sessions. This position suits individuals who enjoy hands-on interaction.

For those preferring administrative tasks, Equest welcomes assistance with various office duties, including database entry, mailings, event coordination, and research. Volunteers with skills in software like Excel are especially valuable to the organization’s growth and efficiency.

Equest emphasizes the profound impact of the human-horse connection and how it can benefit individuals of all ages. Those interested in making a difference in their community through Equest are encouraged to reach out with questions or enroll in the upcoming training sessions.
