Chelsea Hornets Gear Up for Competitive 2026 Softball Season

The Chelsea Hornets are preparing for a promising 2026 softball season, aiming to build on last year’s performance and make a deeper postseason run. Following a solid but not extraordinary campaign in 2025, where they finished with a record of 28-18-2, the team is focused on strengthening their unity and competitive spirit.

Head coach Scott Lowery has emphasized a team-first culture as they head into the new season. “We’re just trying to work on supporting each other just like we’d want people to support us,” Lowery stated. With an eye on the upcoming regional competitions, the Hornets are determined to enhance their overall performance on the field.

As the team looks to the future, they will field a younger roster. This includes several promising players who have shown considerable improvement during the offseason. Senior Sadie Wilson expressed confidence in the team’s progress, stating, “We’ve all gotten so much stronger just like working out every day.” The focus on conditioning and skills training has boosted the team’s overall readiness for the challenges ahead.

Among the returning players, ace pitcher Lorelei Beck stands out as a critical asset. Lowery has high hopes for her ability to dominate in the circle, particularly during crucial area games. Behind the plate, Madeline Kelley will serve as the catcher, bringing two years of experience and a positive attitude to the team dynamics.

The Hornets’ offense will be led by standout player Caroline Brown, who has committed to Louisiana Tech and was recognized last year on the All-County Second Team with an impressive batting average of .363. Her contributions included 41 hits and 24 RBIs, making her a vital leader for the squad. “We’re very team-oriented and we all want what’s best for everybody,” Brown noted, reinforcing the team’s collective goal of advancing further in the postseason.

In addition to Brown and Wilson, the team features an exciting group of juniors, including Lauren Hilyer, a versatile five-tool player, and Julia Willingham, who will bolster the infield. Sophomore Alayna Osbourn is also showing potential as a catcher and outfielder, recognized for her athleticism and future promise.

As they prepare for their upcoming schedule, the Hornets face a tough lineup, including challenging matches against Helena, Pelham, and Spain Park. These encounters will test their skills and resolve, but Lowery believes that if they can secure victories in these key matchups, they will be well-positioned to extend their season beyond the regular games.

“Winning the area would set us up to understand that it’s going to put us in a great position to win it all,” Lowery remarked, highlighting the importance of mindset and preparation. The Hornets’ season will kick off at the Thompson Invitational with a doubleheader on February 20, 2026, facing off against Hazel Green and Thompson at 17:00 and 19:15, respectively.

As the Chelsea Hornets embark on this new journey, their commitment to teamwork and improvement will be pivotal in their pursuit of success on the diamond.
