URGENT UPDATE: A person was struck by a train near Santa Barbara on Friday night and is currently hospitalized with CPR in progress. The incident occurred at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Cabrillo Boulevard, close to the Santa Barbara Cemetery. Emergency responders from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Montecito Fire Department rushed to the scene after a train-versus-pedestrian collision.
According to City Fire Battalion Chief Jon Turner, local police officers initiated CPR, which was later taken over by fire crews. The victim, a male whose age remains unknown, was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. At this time, his identity and condition have not been disclosed, but authorities confirm he was hit by a northbound Amtrak passenger train.
