BREAKING: Tumwater’s hopes for a championship run came to an abrupt halt on Friday, as they fell to Woodland with a final score of 58-47 in the 2A District 4 Quarterfinals held in Woodland. The Thunderbirds faced significant challenges, including foul trouble that plagued their performance.
After a competitive first quarter where Tumwater trailed by just five points, a powerful second quarter by Woodland shifted the momentum. The Beavers notched 25 points in the second, extending their lead to 11 points at halftime. Despite Tumwater’s efforts to rally back, closing the gap to just two points in the third quarter, Woodland finished strong with an 18-9 run to secure the victory.
Foul trouble was a critical issue for Tumwater, with five players ultimately fouling out. Maesyn Williams led the scoring for the Thunderbirds, contributing 13 points. Kamryn Wilson added 11 points, along with five rebounds and three assists, while Cadynce Lee recorded eight points and made an impact with five rebounds and four steals. Anden Demaris also played a vital role, securing seven points and 11 rebounds.
“Our girls fought hard, and we’re proud of their grit,” said Tumwater assistant coach Gabi Larson. “We’re ready for the next one.”
