Valley Community Center Hosts Estate Planning Forum for Residents

The Valley Community Center is set to host a forum focused on estate planning, aiming to educate residents about the complexities of legal preparations. Partnering with local attorney Lauryn Lauderdale of Lauderdale and Lauderdale, the event is designed to address common questions and concerns surrounding the often-overlooked area of estate planning.

According to Annabelle Thompson, Program Coordinator at the Valley Community Center, Lauderdale initiated the collaboration to create an educational opportunity for the community. The forum will adopt a “question-and-answer” format, where Lauderdale will respond to both live inquiries and pre-submitted questions from attendees. This approach ensures that participants can engage actively while also receiving tailored information.

The forum will span two sessions, each addressing different aspects of estate planning. The first session, scheduled for February 24 at 14:00 Eastern, will tackle the fundamental questions: “Do I need a will, and what is a trust?” This discussion will guide residents through the basics of wills and trusts, providing insights that help avoid confusion and encourage proactive planning.

The second session, taking place on February 26 at 19:00 Eastern, will emphasize the significance of communicating personal preferences regarding estate matters. Lauderdale will offer clear guidance on documenting decisions and storing key documents, ensuring that individuals’ wishes are respected and easily executed when necessary.

Residents can submit questions in advance by emailing [email protected]. This initiative allows Lauderdale to address prevalent concerns and foster a more productive forum experience. Information about the event, including submission details, is available on social media and flyers distributed at the community center, which is located at 130 Sportsplex Dr. in Valley.

Thompson highlighted the importance of addressing the stigma often associated with estate planning. Many individuals delay these discussions due to misconceptions about complexity or the uncomfortable association with death. Thompson stated, “You need to start on it earlier rather than later, because you don’t want family members’ wishes to be unknown and not executed how they hoped.” She encouraged anyone with questions or uncertainty to attend and benefit from the session.

This forum represents a vital step in demystifying estate planning for Valley residents, providing them with the knowledge and resources needed to prepare for the future effectively. The community engagement fostered by this initiative reflects a commitment to empowering individuals to make informed decisions regarding their estates and personal affairs.
