Dyson has unveiled its new cleaning device, the PencilWash, touted as the slimmest floor washer globally. Set to launch on March 17, 2024, this innovative wet cleaner is designed to simplify the mopping process, particularly in compact living spaces. Weighing just 4.9 lb (2.2 kg), the PencilWash is significantly lighter than the company’s previous model, the WashG1, which is intended for larger homes measuring up to 3,000 sq ft.
The PencilWash features a notably slim handle, measuring only 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width, which Dyson claims enhances user comfort. This design allows for easy maneuverability across various hard surfaces. A significant advancement in this model is the integration of electrical components alongside a 10-fl-oz (295-ml) clean water tank and a 12-fl-oz (355-ml) dirty water tank, all contained within the handle itself.
Advanced Cleaning Technology
Dyson assures that the PencilWash employs a blend of hydration, agitation, and extraction technologies, ensuring that only fresh water is used for cleaning. Users can choose between two modes to adjust moisture levels based on the types of stains and surfaces, offering flexibility for different cleaning needs. The device can nearly lay flat, reaching down to 6 inches (15 cm), making it effective for cleaning under low furniture.
The high-density microfiber roller is designed to capture both wet and dry debris in a single pass, enhancing efficiency. Additionally, the PencilWash comes equipped with a user-friendly screen displaying the battery level. It can be conveniently charged in a dock, taking approximately 3.5 hours for a full charge. With an estimated runtime of 30 minutes, the device is capable of mopping an area of up to 1,076 sq ft (100 sq m), making it ideal for smaller two-bedroom apartments.

The PencilWash is priced at US$349, offering a more affordable option compared to the larger WashG1, which retails for US$770. Its compact design also facilitates easy storage, and importantly, there is no filter to clean, simplifying maintenance.
