Vision Board Workshop Sparks Community Creativity at Aboriginal Art Co

URGENT UPDATE: A vibrant vision board workshop at Aboriginal Art Co in Magandjin’s West End drew community members together over the weekend, marking a significant step in the gallery’s development ahead of its official launch in the coming weeks. This engaging event, curated by renowned artist Kim Engwicht of K-Rae Designs, focused on personal aspirations for 2026.

Participants gathered on October 14, 2023, to reflect on their goals and dreams for the upcoming year. The atmosphere buzzed with creativity as attendees cut up magazines and crafted collages that vividly represented their ambitions. “Today we have got my vision board workshop for 2026, and we’ve got such an awesome space to have it in the Aboriginal Art Co,” Ms. Engwicht stated. “I wanted everyone to come together to just cut up magazines, be creative, and put down the things they want to achieve this year.”

The workshop was not just about crafting; it was an opportunity for connection. Ms. Engwicht emphasized the importance of bringing people from diverse backgrounds together. “The sense of connection is what I really wanted to do with these workshops,” she explained. “They’re going home with something they’ve made with their own hands, and they can look back throughout the year and remember their intentions.”

The event featured delightful music and snacks from My Dilly Bag, enhancing the communal experience. Participants left with their completed boards, serving as daily reminders of their personal goals. This hands-on approach allowed for emotional engagement, as individuals articulated their aspirations in a creative and supportive environment.

Ms. Engwicht, who is a self-taught digital illustrator and collage artist, is also the author of the children’s book ‘Nature All Around Us.’ Her multifaceted artistic practice includes creating prints, maintaining a journal, and painting murals, all while supporting Indigenous artists through her initiatives.

As Aboriginal Art Co prepares for its official opening, this workshop exemplifies its commitment to fostering community spirit and celebrating Indigenous culture. The move from its previous South Brisbane location signals a new chapter for the gallery, dedicated to empowering artists and enriching the local community.
