Colfax High School Basketball Coach Reece Jenkin Passes Away

Reece Jenkin, the respected head coach of the Colfax High School boys’ basketball team, passed away on February 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 45 years old. Jenkin had received his diagnosis on December 11, 2025, and despite his illness, he continued to lead his team to an impressive 24-0 record this season, securing the top seed in the state 2B tournament.

In a heartfelt gesture, Coach Jenkin gathered his players at his home shortly before his passing. He expressed his love and support for them, reassuring them as they prepared to move forward without him. The coaching community has hailed him as “one of the best,” reflecting the deep respect he garnered throughout his career.

Legacy and Career Highlights

Born on August 28, 1980, in Spokane, Washington, Reece grew up in Nine-Mile Falls alongside his older brother, Josh. After excelling in multiple sports at Reardan High School, he graduated in 1999 and continued his basketball career at both Big Bend Community College and Whitworth University. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Whitworth.

Reece’s journey in Colfax began when he was hired as the business manager for the Colfax School District. He transitioned into coaching, starting with middle school football before taking the helm of the Colfax Bulldogs boys’ basketball team. Over his 18-year tenure, Jenkin notched over 300 wins, led his teams to eight consecutive state tournament appearances, and secured state titles in 2012 and 2024.

His influence extended beyond high school basketball, as he also coached for the Hooptown Elite AAU program in Spokane, traveling across the United States during summer tournaments. Reece’s passion for basketball was matched only by his dedication to his family. He was a devoted father to three children, Adrik (18), Allie (15), and Ryker (13), and was proud of their achievements.

A Community Mourning

Reece is survived by his wife, Breanne Jenkin, and their children, as well as his parents, Rick and Nancy Jenkin, and brother Josh, all residing in Reardan. He will be laid to rest at the Colfax Cemetery in a private family ceremony.

A celebration of Reece Jenkin’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the Colfax High School Gymnasium, inviting friends, family, and community members to honor his legacy. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society fund for pancreatic cancer. The arrangements are being handled by Corbeill Funeral Home of Colfax.

Reece Jenkin’s contributions to basketball and the lives he touched will be remembered by many, from players to fellow coaches across the Inland Northwest. His passion for the game and commitment to his community created a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.
