URGENT UPDATE: The captivating exhibition, Living Collection: Works on Paper by acclaimed artist Jason Eisner, is set to close on April 24 at St. Ambrose University’s Morrissey Gallery in Davenport, IA. Art lovers have just days left to experience Eisner’s unique perspective captured in his latest works.
Eisner’s collection showcases pieces inspired by his dynamic life, where he finds artistic moments in the hustle and bustle of daily life. As he expresses, his art often comes from “found moments, drawn while on break, sitting in the grass.” This intimate glimpse into his creative process invites viewers to reflect on the beauty of spontaneity in art.
Born and raised in Illinois, Eisner has spent the last 30 years in New York City, where he has honed his skills. He holds a BA from Knox College and a Painting Certificate from the New York Studio School. Despite his professional move into horticulture as a Master Pruner and Horticulturalist at the Green-Wood Cemetery and Arboretum in Brooklyn, Eisner remains deeply connected to his artistic roots. His current role allows him to draw inspiration from a living collection of over 8,000 trees, shrubs, and plants in a sprawling 500-acre space.
The exhibition, part of the ongoing discussions about the nature of artistry, raises a poignant question: “When does one become an artist? When does an artist make art?” Eisner’s lifelong dedication to drawing and painting underscores his identity as an artist, regardless of his professional commitments.
Gallery hours for the Morrissey Gallery are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free, making this a must-see event for those in the area. For further details, interested visitors can reach out at (563) 333-6444 or check out updates on Facebook.com/CatichGallerySAU.
