TSMC Arizona Begins Mass Production of NVIDIA AI Chips Today

URGENT UPDATE: TSMC Arizona has officially begun mass production of NVIDIA’s AI chips, a groundbreaking step for the tech industry and the company’s north Phoenix facility. The announcement was made during a high-profile event on October 12, 2023, attended by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and TSMC executives.

This significant milestone is particularly noteworthy as the TSMC factory is still under construction, with only about a third of the site completed. However, the first batch of NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI chips has already been delivered, setting the stage for a revolution in artificial intelligence technology.

“The single most important chip is being manufactured here in the United States by the most advanced fab at TSMC here in the United States,”

David Keller, CEO of TSMC North America, shared that production will scale up rapidly, stating, “You’ll see thousands and thousands of Blackwell’s coming out of this factory very soon.” Huang added to this optimism, saying, “He spoke in thousands. We ordered in millions.”

TSMC is also planning to expand its operations. The company has announced a partnership with a developer to construct a large section of land across Loop 303, which will be part of an “innovation corridor.” This expansion aims to enhance the local tech ecosystem and strengthen the AI supply chain in the United States.

During the same event, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei revealed plans to introduce their advanced 2-nanometer production process to Arizona sooner than anticipated, a technology not yet available even in Taiwan. This move signifies TSMC’s commitment to establishing Arizona as a key player in the global semiconductor landscape.

“To support the AI infrastructure buildout we’re going to do, we’re going to need all of the fabs being built here in Arizona, but also a broad range of supply chains,”

Huang explained, highlighting the critical role of this initiative for the future of AI technology in the U.S.
