San Jose Sharks’ Error Costs Them Again, Remain Winless at 0-4

UPDATE: The San Jose Sharks are still searching for their first win of the season after a critical mistake by goalie Yaroslav Askarov led to a momentum-shifting goal, resulting in a 6-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth on October 18, 2025, at the Delta Center.
In a thrilling second-period comeback, the Sharks erased a 2-0 deficit with goals from Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Skinner. However, a late turnover by Askarov allowed Liam O’Brien to score, reclaiming the lead for Utah and marking O’Brien’s first goal since April 17, 2024.
The Sharks, now 0-4 this season, had their hopes dashed again despite a fierce effort. After a rough first period, the team rallied back with two quick goals, but Askarov’s blunder turned the tide. Nick Schmaltz later completed a hat trick, further sealing the Sharks’ fate.
Askarov finished the game with 28 saves, making it his second start of the season. He was looking for redemption after a narrow 7-6 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on October 11, where he faced 43 shots. The Sharks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday at SAP Center, where Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to start in goal.
Sharks fans are left disheartened as their team remains the last winless club in the NHL. Macklin Celebrini did score his first goal of the season late in the third period, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, and he notably refrained from celebrating.
With the Penguins looming, the Sharks must quickly regroup to avoid extending their losing streak. The pressure is mounting as they look to halt this downward spiral and finally secure a much-needed victory.
“We need to tighten up our game and eliminate the mistakes,” said Sharks coach. “Every point matters, and we can’t afford to let these slip away.”
As the Sharks prepare for their next match, all eyes will be on the ice to see if they can shake off this rough start and finally emerge victorious.
