A tragic accident in El Cajon, California, resulted in the death of a young driver on March 14, 2024. According to the El Cajon Police Department, the driver of a black BMW collided with a box truck around 15:25 local time near the intersection of Broadway and Oro Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the box truck overturned on its side, with eyewitnesses reporting that it was briefly engulfed in flames. The driver of the BMW, identified as 19-year-old Jesse Hernandez from El Cajon, was trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency responders managed to extricate him from the severely damaged vehicle, and he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses indicated that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash, noting that the BMW appeared to be involved in a speed contest with another vehicle prior to the incident. Lieutenant Joe Crawford of the El Cajon Police Department stated that the police have not made any arrests related to the accident as of now.

Both delivery workers inside the box truck sustained minor injuries and received medical attention. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging anyone with information to contact the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311.
