Remembering Mary Ingleby: A Life of Love, Teaching, and Music

Mary Ruth Ingleby, a dedicated educator and passionate advocate for children and animals, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 75 on **October 7, 2025**. Her long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease marked the final chapter of a life filled with love, creativity, and a commitment to making a difference in her community.

Born on **June 22, 1950**, in **Salt Lake City**, Mary was the third of six children of **Don** and **Lavon Ingleby**. Growing up in a large family, she developed strong connections with her siblings, which remained a cornerstone of her life. At the age of 16, Mary faced the difficult decision of giving up her first child for adoption, an experience that profoundly influenced her future. This event ignited her passion for teaching, particularly young children, whom she inspired throughout her career.

Mary earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from **Cabrillo College** and dedicated many years to teaching children aged three to five years. Among her students was her second child, **Damian**, who developed a lifelong love for reading and learning, reflecting his mother’s profound impact on his early education.

Community and Compassion

For **53 years**, Mary called **Santa Cruz** home, where she thrived in a community that embraced her love for the ocean and beach.
