Colorado Springs Welcomes Injured K9 Roam with Procession Tomorrow

UPDATE: Colorado Springs is gearing up to honor injured K9 Roam with a heartfelt homecoming procession tomorrow, October 21. The beloved canine officer, who suffered severe injuries in the line of duty, will be released from the hospital and escorted back to his unit, drawing community support for his remarkable recovery.
K9 Roam was critically injured on October 15 while bravely attempting to apprehend a suspect. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) confirmed that he underwent life-saving surgery, including a leg amputation, and has been recuperating at Animal ER Care under the care of dedicated veterinary professionals.
The public is invited to participate in the procession, which kicks off at 11:00 AM on Fountain Boulevard. Roam and his handler are expected to pass by around 11:15 AM. Supporters are encouraged to line the sidewalks, but local authorities urge attendees to avoid parking directly on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard.
Community members and media will have the opportunity to speak with CSPD’s Public Communication Specialist, Caitlin Ford, at the CSPD Sand Creek Substation approximately 20 minutes after the event concludes.
This emotional event serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers—both human and canine. The procession not only honors Roam’s bravery but also highlights the deep bond between service animals and the communities they protect.
As the community rallies together to support K9 Roam in his journey home, the CSPD expresses immense gratitude to the veterinary team whose skill and compassion were vital in saving Roam’s life. This is a developing story that reflects the strength and unity of Colorado Springs in the face of adversity. Make sure to join and show your support tomorrow!
