Montgomery’s Three Touchdowns Propel Presbyterian Past Stetson

Presbyterian College maintained its unbeaten record with a decisive 42-7 victory over Stetson University on October 28, 2023. The Blue Hose showcased a dominant performance, powered by a standout display from running back Justin Montgomery, who rushed for three touchdowns during the match held in Clinton, South Carolina.
The Blue Hose, now with a record of 7-0 and 3-0 in the Pioneer Football League (PFL), established early momentum, taking a commanding 35-0 lead by the start of the fourth quarter. Montgomery opened the scoring with two touchdowns in the first half, effectively setting the tone for the game.
Quarterback Collin Hurst contributed significantly to the offense, throwing for 236 yards and connecting with wide receiver Cincere Gill on a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Montgomery added his third touchdown in the third quarter, followed by a touchdown run from Antonio Wright, extending the Blue Hose’s lead.
In relief, Ty Englehart capped off the scoring for Presbyterian with a 6-yard touchdown run in the final quarter, bringing the score to 42-7. Montgomery finished the game with 54 rushing yards on just eight attempts, demonstrating efficiency and effectiveness on the ground.
Stetson, now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the PFL, managed to avoid a shutout in the fourth quarter when Cayden Betts caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gunnar Chenier. Despite this late score, the game was largely dominated by Presbyterian, who has now scored at least 40 points in all four of their home games this season.
The victory highlights Presbyterian’s strong position in the PFL as they continue their pursuit of a successful season. With their unbeaten streak intact, the Blue Hose will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
