Historian Seeks Public Help to Identify 1920s Collingdale Postcard

Historian Keith Lockhart is reaching out to the community for assistance in identifying the precise location depicted in a vintage postcard from the 1920s. The postcard features Cherry Street in Collingdale, Pennsylvania, and Lockhart is eager to gather details regarding the exact blocks, cross streets, and orientation of the scene captured in the image.
The postcard, which is devoid of any visible vehicles, represents a snapshot of life in Collingdale nearly a century ago. Lockhart, who has amassed a vast collection of historical photographs and postcards from Delaware County, is committed to preserving and documenting the rich history of the area. Those with information regarding the postcard are encouraged to reach out to him via email at [email protected]. More historical insights and images can be found on his website, delawarecountyhistory.com.
Community Contributions on Recent Historical Image
Last week, Lockhart shared another historical photograph, this time from Marcus Hook. The response was enthusiastic, with community members providing valuable context about the image. David Burns noted that the photograph depicts the intersection of 10th Street and Market Street, looking east towards Post Road and Chester. He pointed out the presence of a drug store located on the southeast corner of the intersection, and highlighted the trolley line of the Southern Pennsylvania Traction Company visible in the street.
Another local resident, Dennis McKnight, confirmed Burns’ observations, stating that the view is from 10th Street looking towards McClure Lane. Such contributions not only help Lockhart in his historical pursuits but also foster a sense of community among those interested in preserving Delaware County’s past.
As Lockhart continues his efforts to document local history, he encourages anyone with knowledge of the featured postcard or similar historical artifacts to participate. Engaging with the community is vital for bringing the past to life and ensuring that these stories are not lost to time.
