BREAKING: Charlotte is reeling after a shocking wave of violence, with four homicides reported in less than 24 hours. The latest tragedy unfolded early Sunday morning at Coyote Joe’s, where a man was shot in the parking lot.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., off-duty officers responded to reports of gunfire at the venue located on Wilkinson Blvd.. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from severe gunshot wounds, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

“This has been a particularly, and tragically, violent weekend in Charlotte,”

said Major Dave Johnson of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

“That’s four victims, that’s four families who are grieving.”

The violence began on Saturday evening, when two fatal shootings shook the community. The first incident took place around 5 p.m. on the 5600 block of North Graham Street, while the second occurred shortly after on the 100 block of Park Fairfax Drive. These events followed an earlier assault resulting in a death due to blunt force trauma on the 1300 block of Wembley Drive.

Major Johnson emphasized the CMPD’s commitment to addressing the surge in violence, stating,

“Know that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is working hard in every one of these cases to bring closure and bring justice to these families that are hurting and grieving this weekend over senseless, unnecessary violence.”

The alarming spike in homicides comes after the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police requested federal assistance to combat rising crime in the city. In a letter sent on October 2, the organization highlighted a disturbing trend of 15 killings in their coverage area, which has seen a significant increase in violence, especially following the tragic stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on the city’s light rail system.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant. Anyone with information related to these incidents can contact a CMPD detective at 704-432-8477 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

As Charlotte grapples with this violent weekend, the community is left searching for answers and demanding justice for the victims and their families.
