Edgewater’s Ben Jones Earns Army All-American Invite, Plays Dec. 21

UPDATE: Edgewater offensive tackle Ben Jones has officially earned an invitation to the prestigious Army All-American Bowl, set for December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. This recognition highlights Jones’ impressive performance and dedication, marking a significant milestone in his high school football career.
Just named to the 2026 Central Florida Super60 list at No. 43, Jones is a vital part of the undefeated Edgewater Eagles, who boast a remarkable 9-0 record and have clinched the championship in Class 7A, District 5. “It feels really good… I try to not think about it too much, just give the glory to God,” Jones stated, reflecting on the honor after receiving his Army All-American jersey.
Jones, who recently changed his name from Ben Bankowitz to honor his stepfather, Eric Jones, has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ offensive line since his freshman year. “We’re not done yet,” he emphasized, looking ahead to a pivotal match against Boone High School, also undefeated, in the upcoming Barrel Game rivalry on October 30.
Highly regarded for his technical skills and agility, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 295 pounds, Jones has honed his craft under the guidance of coaches like Chris Jamison, who previously coached the offensive line. He is set to transition to the interior line position in college, having committed to Appalachian State on June 17. “They are building something special up there,” he remarked about the Mountaineers, praising their coaching staff.
Edgewater’s stellar season is attributed not only to Jones’ skills but also to the team’s unity amid coaching changes. After the departure of former head coach Cameron Duke, the players rallied together, demonstrating their commitment during a challenging offseason. “Our senior class, we are like actual brothers. I’m really close with all of them,” Jones said, highlighting the strong bonds that have developed within the team.
As Jones prepares for the All-American Bowl and the remainder of the high school season, watch for his performance to continue to shine on the national stage. His journey is not just an athletic achievement; it’s a testament to resilience, teamwork, and the spirit of high school football.
Stay tuned for more updates as Edgewater aims to maintain its perfect record and as Jones steps into the spotlight at the Army All-American Bowl.
