Ivy McGregor Advocates for ‘Radical Collaboration’ at UCLA Lecture

Global strategist and changemaker Ivy McGregor delivered a powerful lecture at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA on October 8, 2023, emphasizing the importance of “radical collaboration” to tackle pressing social issues. In her talk titled “Four-squared: Unlocking Systemic Change Through Radical Collaboration,” McGregor highlighted her extensive experience in fostering systemic impact across various sectors.
McGregor pointed out that working together across diverse relationships and networks is essential to address complex societal challenges. “I’ve seen each of these pillars move mountains,” she stated, referring to the nonprofit, corporate, philanthropic, and entrepreneurial sectors. “But I’ve also seen their brilliance trapped in silos, and I came to believe something radical — and it is that the future will not be built by one sector alone. It will be built at the intersections.”
Encouraging Interdisciplinary Engagement
The lecture marked the beginning of McGregor’s visiting residency at UCLA, during which she is scheduled to engage in discussions and meetings with faculty and students. This initiative aims to cultivate cross-disciplinary collaboration, encouraging innovative approaches to address societal challenges.
For over 12 years, McGregor has served as the executive director of the BeyGOOD Foundation, a public charity founded by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The foundation focuses on supporting marginalized and underserved communities. Throughout her career, McGregor has designed and led impactful programs addressing health disparities and anti-human trafficking efforts. Her expertise has also been sought by world leaders, corporations, and organizations such as the United Nations.
McGregor’s message resonates with the growing need for collaborative solutions in a world facing multifaceted challenges. As she embarks on her residency at UCLA, her efforts to foster dialogue between various sectors may pave the way for innovative strategies that prioritize community and collective action.
The event attracted attention from various academic circles, with attendees expressing enthusiasm for McGregor’s insights on collaboration. Her approach seeks not only to connect established initiatives but also to inspire a generation of leaders to think beyond traditional boundaries.
In a world increasingly defined by division, McGregor’s call for radical collaboration serves as a reminder of the potential for transformative change when diverse groups unite for a common purpose.
