Stephen Curry’s 42 Points Propel Warriors Past Nuggets in OT Thriller
UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Golden State Warriors triumphed over the Denver Nuggets with a score of 137-131 thanks to Stephen Curry‘s remarkable performance, scoring 42 points on July 15, 2025. This game, filled with tension and drama, witnessed Aaron Gordon showcasing his skills with a staggering 50-point night, yet it was Curry’s late-game heroics that sealed the win.
With the Warriors trailing by seven points late in the fourth quarter, Curry stepped up, hitting crucial free throws and a game-tying three-pointer with just 21.4 seconds remaining. “It’s kind of like a playoff type vibe… you dig deep to steal one,” Curry remarked after the game. His clutch performance included scoring 16 consecutive points for Golden State.
Gordon’s impressive outing was historic; he became only the seventh player in NBA history to score 50 points in a season opener and tied the record for the most three-pointers in a season debut with 10—three more than his previous career high. Despite his achievements, Gordon expressed his disappointment. “It sucks… I don’t want to take the L with me,” he said, reflecting on the loss.
The game intensified as it approached its conclusion. After Curry tied the game, Gordon quickly responded with a three-pointer, putting the Nuggets ahead 120-117 with just 25.7 seconds left. However, Curry answered back, using a pick-and-roll to create space and sinking the game-tying shot that sent the game into overtime after Nikola Jokic missed a crucial shot at the buzzer.
In the overtime period, Curry led the charge, contributing seven points, while teammates Al Horford and Jimmy Butler also made significant contributions with timely three-pointers. The Warriors’ victory improved their record to 2-0 this season.
Curry celebrated the win with his signature “night night” gesture, a testament to his clutch performance. Meanwhile, Nuggets head coach David Adelman lamented the missed opportunity. “Aaron had a night I’ll never forget… So tough loss. We had so many chances to win,” he stated.
This game not only showcased Curry’s excellence but also highlighted Gordon’s potential as a key player for the Nuggets this season. Fans are left buzzing about the thrilling finish and what this means for both teams moving forward.
