Dodgers Manager Expects Improved World Series Performance from Ohtani
The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for a new World Series, with manager Dave Roberts expressing optimism about Shohei Ohtani‘s performance. Following a challenging postseason, Ohtani’s previous struggles at the plate have raised questions, but Roberts believes this year’s series will unveil a different version of the star player.
Last season, during the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees, Ohtani’s contributions were limited. He ended up with a disappointing 2-for-19 performance, which included one double, two walks, and five strikeouts. Despite this lackluster showing, Ohtani redeemed himself in a pivotal postseason game this year, hitting three home runs and pitching six scoreless innings, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities.
As the Dodgers prepare for the upcoming series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Roberts emphasized the importance of Ohtani’s health and mindset. “I hope it’s completely different for Shohei,” he stated during a media briefing. “Certainly having him healthy going in is a great thing. I think him kind of feeding off that last game is a good thing.” In contrast to last year’s World Series, where Ohtani’s presence was felt yet ineffective, Roberts is confident that the player is ready to make a significant impact this time around.
Ohtani’s postseason performance has seen him strike out at an alarming rate, recording over 41 percent strikeouts in his at-bats, significantly higher than his regular season rate of 31 percent. Roberts acknowledged that opposing teams will approach Ohtani with caution, and he urged the player to maintain discipline at the plate. “He’s just going to have to be smart and disciplined because they’re going to pitch him carefully,” Roberts explained. “If he’s disciplined, then it should bode well for him and for all of us.”
Despite his recent struggles, Ohtani remains a formidable presence in the batter’s box, and Roberts noted the psychological impact he has on opponents. “You feel Shohei when he’s in the hole, let alone on deck or in the batter’s box. He’s always looming. Whether he’s swinging the bat well or not, he has the ability to impact the game,” said Roberts.
As the Dodgers look to secure another championship, all eyes will be on Ohtani to deliver a performance that not only matches but exceeds expectations from last year. With high stakes and immense pressure, the upcoming World Series promises to be a showcase of Ohtani’s remarkable talents as he aims to cement his legacy in baseball history.
