UPDATE: A tragic hit-and-run incident in downtown Denver early Sunday morning has resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The crash occurred at approximately 2:16 a.m. at the intersection of 16th Street and Market Street, where the suspect allegedly struck a digital kiosk, causing it to topple onto the victim.
Authorities confirm that 27-year-old Milton McBride was arrested later that day on Wazee Street, just blocks away from the scene. Surveillance footage shows McBride driving recklessly through the gate arm of a nearby parking garage before colliding with a vehicle and losing control of his pickup truck.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bystanders witnessed the horrific aftermath, with one sharing chilling footage of McBride fleeing from his red pickup truck.
During the arrest, police discovered a Ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine in McBride’s left pants pocket. A blood draw was conducted at Denver Health Medical Center to determine his blood alcohol content and drug presence.
McBride is currently being held for investigation of vehicular homicide. The interactive kiosks, which were installed in 2015, are designed to enhance the pedestrian experience along 16th Street, offering directories of local businesses and events.
This incident raises serious concerns about road safety and responsible driving in urban areas. As investigations continue, the Denver community is left mourning the loss of a life in a senseless act of recklessness.
Stay tuned for updates as authorities work to piece together the events surrounding this tragic incident. The focus now shifts to the ongoing investigation and what measures will be taken to prevent future tragedies on Denver streets.
