UPDATE: Local veterans in Fayetteville, Arkansas, are facing a dire situation as the federal government shutdown continues, leaving many without pay. Veterans from Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley who serve in federal positions are now struggling to provide for their families, prompting urgent calls for support.
Many veterans have turned to local organizations for help, with Bo’s Blessings stepping up to provide critical resources. The non-profit, founded by Jannie Layne, is dedicated to supporting veterans affected by the shutdown. Layne reported that requests for assistance have surged, stating, “We’ve been inundated with requests for food, gas money, utility payments. We’re a very small organization, very small funding, and we stretch it as far as we can.”
To address the increasing need, Bo’s Blessings has launched a dedicated food pantry at Springdale Christian Church, specifically for veterans. This initiative is a direct response to the financial hardships many are experiencing. “We’ve seen so many people needing food, we decided to focus on that at this time,” Layne added. The organization is committed to providing food boxes and conducting food drives to help those in need.
As the government shutdown shows no signs of resolution, many veterans are left in an urgent crisis. Layne urges community members to contribute, saying, “This is an immediate crisis. So, checks can be mailed to Bo’s Blessings at P.O. Box 8558, Springdale 72766. Food can be donated. Call me at (479) 530-7728, and we’ll work out an arrangement to get that food donated.”
For those looking to assist, Bo’s Blessings encourages donations of food and funds to help sustain their efforts. The situation remains critical as local veterans navigate the impact of the ongoing shutdown.
