BREAKING: Hudson’s quest for OHSAA field hockey glory ended in a heartbreaking 3-0 loss to Upper Arlington in Worthington, Ohio, on July 15, 2023. The Explorers fell just one game short of the state championship, marking a significant moment in their playoff journey.
Hudson head coach Louise Knox expressed pride in her team’s effort, stating, “I am very proud of the fight and the grit the girls showed this season. This season will always be part of their legacy in this program.” Knox emphasized the hard work put in by the players, some of whom have been training since elementary school, to reach this crucial game.
The Explorers faced challenges on the field, struggling to penetrate Upper Arlington’s defense. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, including multiple penalty corners, Hudson failed to convert, with many shots either deflected or saved by Golden Bears’ goalkeeper.
Upper Arlington took control early, scoring the first goal on a penalty corner at 7:26 left in the first quarter. They quickly extended their lead to 2-0 in the second quarter, continuing to dominate possession throughout the game. Hudson’s junior goalie, Casey Curry, made several key saves, showcasing her defensive skills.
Hudson’s best chances came from junior forward Anna Charriere, whose shots struck the post and narrowly missed the goal. Coach Knox noted, “We had multiple opportunities on offense but could not finish, and some days that happens.”
As the game neared its conclusion, Upper Arlington sealed their victory with a third goal in the final seconds, leaving Hudson to reflect on a strong season. With a record of 16-5 and two playoff victories, the Explorers have much to be proud of, including a significant win against previously undefeated Shaker Heights.
