A health and wellness fair dedicated to the memory of educator and community leader Dothea H. Smith is set to take place in Palatka on November 18, 2023. This event aims to honor Smith, who passed away from cancer, and will bring together community members to promote health awareness and support local initiatives.

Organized by the St. Johns-Putnam-Flagler Chapter of the Charmettes Inc., the fair will feature various health-related activities and informational booths. D’Arcy Miller, the chapter’s president, along with member Monica Oliver, expressed their commitment to preserving Smith’s legacy through this event. “Dothea was a pillar in our community, and this fair will celebrate her life and dedication to education,” Miller stated.

The Dothea H. Smith Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, which has served as a central hub for community gatherings. Participants can expect to engage in wellness activities, learn about health resources, and connect with local service providers.

In addition to health screenings and educational workshops, the event will also include a community walk, encouraging participants to embrace physical fitness and well-being. This walk aims to foster community spirit and showcase the importance of health in daily life.

Smith, who dedicated over three decades to education, was known for her unwavering commitment to the youth and families of Palatka. Her contributions have left a lasting impact, and many community members are eager to honor her memory.

Local resident Stephanie Johns-Parker is among those planning to attend. “This fair is a wonderful way to celebrate Dothea’s life and continue her mission of promoting health and wellness,” she remarked.

The event is expected to draw a large crowd from different parts of the region, emphasizing the community’s solidarity and resilience. By focusing on health and wellness, the fair aims not only to commemorate a beloved figure but also to empower individuals to take charge of their health.

As preparations for the fair continue, the organizers are encouraging community members to participate and honor Smith’s legacy. The event is free and open to the public, making it accessible for all who wish to join in this meaningful tribute.
