SCV Chamber Celebrates Local Veterans at Urgent Salute Event

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted an urgent ceremony on November 5, 2025, honoring local veterans for their unwavering contributions to the community. Held at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, this 15th annual Salute to Patriots event recognized six extraordinary individuals who have continued to serve even after their military careers.

Local leaders and dignitaries gathered to pay tribute to a group of heroes: Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Camille Applin-Jones was unable to attend and will be honored at next year’s event.

“You are not only defenders of our country, but also the pride of our community,” stated Di Thompson, 2025 chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. Her poignant message emphasized the deep gratitude the community feels for its veterans and their sacrifices.

Community members were encouraged to nominate veterans who have made significant impacts within Santa Clarita Valley, particularly those often overlooked. This initiative aims to spotlight the unsung heroes who enhance the local business landscape, as stated by Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber.

Each honoree was recognized for their unique contributions, collectively strengthening the community for both veterans and non-veterans alike. As Emily White introduced her husband, Eric White, she expressed her pride: “He has a servant’s heart and goes out of his way to serve anyone he meets.”

Robert Lasher, another honoree, highlighted the importance of his work at the SCV Food Pantry, where he helps people in need. After facing personal tragedy during the pandemic, he said, “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out.”

Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the city’s commitment to supporting veterans: “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will.” He acknowledged the challenges veterans face and reiterated the city’s dedication to fair treatment and care for all who have served.

This event not only serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans but also galvanizes community support for ongoing initiatives aimed at recognizing their efforts. As the community rallies together, local leaders urge citizens to remain vigilant in honoring and supporting veterans throughout the year.
