Urgent Fire Destroys Part of Maine Sawmill, No Injuries Reported

UPDATE: A significant fire erupted at the Irving Forest Products sawmill in Dixfield, Maine, causing extensive damage to a section of the building on Saturday. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, according to the Dixfield Fire Company.

Firefighters from multiple towns, including Rumford, Peru, Mexico, East Dixfield, Jay, Wilton, Canton, Roxbury, and Carthage, swiftly responded to the scene to combat the blaze. The fire company confirmed that the damage was primarily contained to the northwest side of the sawmill building.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. “The damage is extensive but contained,” the fire company stated, adding that mill personnel are already evaluating the situation and planning for necessary repairs.

Irving Forest Products has held ownership of the Dixfield sawmill since 1998 and has invested over $40 million into its operations. This investment highlights the company’s commitment to the local economy and its workforce.
