Leominster High School Students Shine in First Local Art Exhibit

URGENT UPDATE: Leominster High School students showcased their remarkable artwork at the Sterling Arts Collaborative fall exhibit, held on November 8 & 9. This event marks a significant milestone for the school, as it is the first time both the students and their art teacher, Shelly Saben, have participated in such a local showcase.

Saben, who leads the art department at Leominster High School, submitted her own painting alongside thought-provoking pieces created by her students. This debut event not only highlights the talents of young artists but also signifies a new era for the school’s art program, with Saben expressing her pride in her students’ accomplishments.

The exhibit featured a diverse array of artwork from artists of all ages, including students from LHS. Notable participants included juniors Lola Couture, Ivan Kaidalin, and Huynh Tran, along with seniors Sid Imbriani, Kenzie Moyen, Avin Ruiz, Erin Sargent, and Natalie Smith. Sophomore Sophie Lopez from the Leominster Center for Technical Education Innovation also showcased her work.

“This opportunity is especially significant, as all other exhibitions and art competitions we participate in are typically scheduled for spring,” said Saben. “We are eager to collaborate with the Sterling Arts Collaborative in the future to further engage our students with the local community.”

The emotional impact of this exhibit is profound. Saben not only displayed her artwork but also hung her piece titled “Kids Boots” next to a pastel drawing created by her mother, Joanne Fortin. “It was a moment I will cherish, as my mother has been my biggest supporter, pushing me to share my artwork with the world,” Saben shared.

The Sterling Arts Collaborative’s social media posts celebrated the event, noting the impressive engagement between the exhibiting artists and attendees, who had the chance to discuss their work. The collaborative encourages the public to follow their page for updates on local talent and future exhibitions.

The success of this exhibit serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of art education and community support. Students and teachers alike are motivated by the recognition they received, fostering a sense of accomplishment that extends beyond the classroom.
