Midco Foundation Grants $10,000 to Support Grand Forks Salvation Army

The Midco Foundation has awarded a grant of $10,000 to the Grand Forks Salvation Army, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing food and essential services to the community. This support comes as the organization faces a significant increase in demand, with the local team serving between 450 and 500 individuals each month across Grand Forks County and East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

According to a press release issued by Midco on November 18, 2023, the Grand Forks Salvation Army has reported a 40% increase in demand at its food pantry in recent weeks. This surge underscores the critical need for community support, particularly during challenging economic times.

Ben Dold, President and Chief Operating Officer of Midco, highlighted the strain on food banks across the Midwest. “Food banks are experiencing serious strain amid rising costs and an increased need for their critical services,” Dold stated. He expressed pride in supporting the Grand Forks Salvation Army’s outreach efforts, emphasizing the organization’s role in providing hope to families in need.

Auxiliary Captain Eugene Ware, corps officer for the Salvation Army, expressed gratitude for the grant. “This support will help us continue to meet urgent needs in our community, such as emergency assistance for those facing food insecurity,” Ware said. He noted that such assistance is crucial for neighbors who require help the most.

Rhonda Erickson, Senior Community Relations Manager and Foundation Executive Director at Midco, acknowledged the dedication of the Salvation Army staff. “Their daily acts of kindness and generosity keep many community members, including children and the elderly, fed and healthy,” she said. Erickson encouraged others to recognize the organization’s efforts, calling them “humble heroes.”

The announcement also included information on how the public can contribute to the Grand Forks Salvation Army. A community meal is scheduled for November 21, 2023, which is open to all residents. Additionally, December 12 marks Big Ring Day at Northdale Oil, where donations can range from $0.10 to $0.50 per gallon of fuel, with a fundraising goal of $60,000 for the day. Contributions on this day can be matched, turning every $20 into $100 through corporate and community support.

The Salvation Army continues to seek volunteers to assist with various roles, such as ringing bells, supporting thrift store operations, and helping with core programs. The organization remains committed to addressing food insecurity and providing essential services to those in need, with community partnerships like that of the Midco Foundation playing a vital role in their mission.
