The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) announced its all-state girls volleyball teams, recognizing standout athletes for their exceptional performances this season. Among the top honors, University sophomore outside/opposite-side hitter Delaney Lauer was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, while Eaton’s Madi Smith earned the same accolade for Class 3A. Lauer’s impressive contributions helped University secure a state championship on November 15, 2023, marking the program’s second title in its history.
Lauer, who played a pivotal role in University’s successful campaign, led her team with 402 kills. She also recorded 272 digs and 34 aces, showcasing her all-around skills on the court. The Bulldogs finished the season with a commendable 24-5 record. Under the guidance of head coach Jared Rudiger, who was named the 4A Coach of the Year, University triumphed in the state finals held at the Denver Coliseum.
In addition to Lauer, senior teammate Jordan Halley received a spot on the 4A first team, further highlighting the team’s strength. Windsor, the 4A runner-up, celebrated two first-team selections: senior Madelyn Bahnsen and junior libero Avery Smiley. Other notable mentions included University junior libero/outside hitter Livianna Aguilar, who earned an honorable mention in the 4A category.
In the Class 3A category, Madi Smith led Eaton to a remarkable 25-4 record and secured the program’s 11th state title. Smith distinguished herself with 399 kills, and she ranked third on her team with 200 digs and fifth with 24 blocks. Her performance solidified her position as one of the top players in the state, earning her the Player of the Year honor.
Smith’s achievements were complemented by her teammate, senior outside hitter Chloe Crider, who also made the 3A first team. Resurrection Christian senior middle hitter Kaylynn Pardue joined them, while second-team honors went to Resurrection Christian sophomore setter/defensive specialist Kylee Mayes and Eaton senior setter Trinity Salberg.
The all-state teams are a collaborative effort between CHSAANow.com and MaxPreps, compiled after league nominations and subsequent voting by coaches across the state. Only players who achieved first-team all-conference honors were eligible for selection, ensuring that the recognized athletes reflect the highest standard of competition in Colorado.
As the volleyball season concludes, the accolades for Lauer and Smith highlight the dedication and skill displayed by young athletes in high school sports. Their accomplishments not only contribute to their teams’ legacies but also inspire future generations of players in the sport.
