UPDATE: A major travel surge is underway in San Antonio as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, with officials at San Antonio International Airport reporting a busy travel rush that began on Saturday, November 22 and is expected to continue until after Monday, December 1.
Airport spokeswoman Ana Flores reveals that the airport anticipates between 250,000 and 350,000 travelers during this ten-day period. The busiest days are projected to be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after, signaling an urgent need for travelers to plan ahead.
As the holiday draws near, Flores emphasizes the importance of arriving early at the airport, advising passengers to arrive at least two hours before their flights. With potential weather-related delays impacting travel across the country, staying connected to airlines is crucial for timely updates.
In addition to air travel, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reports that nearly 6 million people are expected to travel within Texas for Thanksgiving, marking a 1% increase from last year and nearly a 4% rise since the pandemic year of 2019.

Additionally, around 140,000 people will travel by bus, train, or boat, representing an 8% increase over 2024 and a staggering 27% increase from 2019.
As San Antonio gears up for this holiday travel influx, it’s clear that the spirit of Thanksgiving is driving families and friends to reconnect, making preparations essential for a smooth journey.
