BREAKING: Judith Lynn Parsons, a cherished community figure and devoted family matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Soquel, California, at the age of 92. Her death follows a joyful visit with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, marking the end of a remarkable life dedicated to family, politics, and community service.
Born in 1932 to Dorothy Graebe-Zent and Claude Zent in Stockton, California, Judy overcame personal tragedy early in life when she lost her mother to tuberculosis at just seven years old. Raised by her grandparents, Hermann and Hermina Graebe, she grew into a strong, independent woman who excelled academically, graduating from Stockton College High School and later from San Jose State University as a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Judy’s legacy includes a deep commitment to her community, highlighted by her work with the Girl Scouts and Parks and Recreation. She owned and operated the Parsons Insurance Agency in Capitola, providing insurance support to countless friends and clients. Her contributions extended to various local initiatives, including her roles in the Sportscar Club, First Night, Save Soquel, and the establishment of Anna Jean Cummins Park, affectionately known as Blue Ball Park.
Throughout her life, Judy was an avid baseball fan, passionately supporting the Oakland A’s as a season ticket holder alongside her husband, Paul Parsons, who passed away just months prior, holding her hand. The couple’s love story began at Cowell’s Beach, leading to a marriage in 1954 and a lifelong partnership filled with adventure.
The Parsons family nurtured a strong bond while residing in their forever home on Fairway Drive, where they raised three children: Randall Parsons (Alison), Stacey Ely (Skip), and Pepe Parsons (Amy D). Judy was immensely proud of her five grandchildren—Chris Parsons (Natalie), Boris Baggerman (Mallory), Amy Ely, Aly Ely, and Jasper Parsons—and her four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Miles, Raegan, and Avery.
Throughout her life, Judy was known for her vibrant personality and commitment to progressive politics, championing local causes and candidates. She was a familiar sight in her red Prius, proudly displaying the license plate I LY Q.
Judy’s passions extended beyond politics; she cherished summers at the family cabin at Woods Lake and enjoyed trips to Nevada’s casinos. Her adventurous spirit led her and Paul on travels across Central and South America, the Caribbean, and a memorable safari in Africa in their late 80s.
Family and close friends are set to celebrate Judy’s extraordinary life during the holiday season, honoring her legacy of kindness and community service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local charities that reflect Judy’s dedication to making her community a better place.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Judy’s close friends Pat Poulos and Jean Tarr, her devoted care team, and the nurses from VNA who provided exceptional support during her final days. Judy Parsons leaves behind a profound impact on those she touched, ensuring her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and community.
Stay tuned for updates as the community remembers and honors Judy’s remarkable contributions to Soquel and beyond.
