New Café Baked on Maine Opens in Brunswick, Offering Unique Menu

A new dining option for breakfast and lunch has officially opened in Brunswick, Maine. Baked on Maine, located in the former Great Impasta building on Maine Street, welcomed its first customers on January 2, 2024, following a soft opening earlier that week. This café, part of a group that includes two established bakeries, aims to bring a fresh culinary experience to the area.

The menu at Baked on Maine features a variety of breakfast items and lunch sandwiches. It includes unique offerings such as smoked meat, smoked brisket, and pulled pork, which are not commonly found in other local eateries. Manager Ryan Ballard emphasized that the café fills a gap in the market, stating, “What’s not already here is a breakfast place on Maine Street in Brunswick. Our menu is definitely going to be different than most every other place.”

Baked on Maine also continues the commitment to gluten-free options established by its sister establishments, Wildflours Gluten-Free Bakery in Brunswick and Mae’s Cafe & Bakery in Bath. According to Ballard, all menu items are available in both gluten-free and traditional formats, which broadens the appeal to a wider audience.

The café’s owner, Ned Horton, a Nashville real estate investor with connections to Brunswick, expressed enthusiasm for the location. As soon as The Great Impasta became available, Horton and his team recognized the opportunity to create a new space that would highlight the existing bakeries. Ballard shared that the decision to feature both Wildflours and Mae’s was intentional. “We were trying to decide if we were going to move Wildflours over here or if we were going to do something new and feature Wildflours and Mae’s, and we chose to feature the two because making the café just gluten-free would really limit the customer base,” he explained.

Since opening, Baked on Maine has experienced a bustling start, attracting a steady stream of customers eager to try its offerings. The café operates from Friday to Monday, welcoming patrons from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 42 Maine St..

This new venture not only adds to the local dining scene but also reflects a growing trend of cafés that cater to diverse dietary preferences. With its unique menu and focus on quality, Baked on Maine aims to become a favorite spot for both locals and visitors in Brunswick.
