Pacific Surfliner Halts Service for Track Upgrades on March 7-8

Pacific Surfliner will suspend all train services on the weekend of March 7-8, 2024, due to essential track work being conducted by rail partners. This decision affects travel between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, as Union Pacific, Metrolink, and NCTD will implement track closures both north and south of Los Angeles.

In a bid to ensure uninterrupted operations during the busy summer travel season, Pacific Surfliner officials emphasized their commitment to supporting necessary infrastructure improvements. They acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause travelers and urged those planning to travel during this period to seek alternative arrangements as early as possible.

Service Details and Customer Options

Travelers are advised that there will be no train service along the entire corridor, and importantly, no bus bridge service will be available during the closure. Despite this disruption, Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate, offering some alternative travel options.

Customers who have made reservations for travel on March 7-8 can modify their bookings for a different date or request a full refund through Amtrak. Regular train services are set to resume on Monday, March 9, 2024.

Pacific Surfliner representatives expressed their appreciation for the understanding and patience of their customers during this necessary service interruption. For further details, travelers can visit the Pacific Surfliner Travel Advisories page.

As the railway industry navigates these essential upgrades, Pacific Surfliner remains focused on enhancing service reliability and safety for its passengers.
