NFL star Saquon Barkley has joined a high-profile group of investors in the AI data center startup Crusoe, further diversifying his technology investment portfolio. This latest funding round, which totals $1.4 billion, elevates Crusoe’s valuation to over $10 billion. With this investment, Barkley continues to make a mark in the tech landscape, partnering with notable firms including Nvidia and Valor Equity Partners.

Crusoe, often referred to as “the AI Factory Company,” specializes in developing infrastructure that supports artificial intelligence by combining energy sourcing with AI-optimized data center construction. The company aims to accelerate AI development by providing clean-energy-powered data centers that help mitigate operational bottlenecks. Its cloud product, Crusoe Cloud, is already utilized by leading AI startups, including Together AI and Fireworks.

Barkley’s venture into tech investment is not new. According to a recent report by The Profile, the Philadelphia Eagles running back has previously invested in various tech companies such as Anthropic and Neuralink, as well as the prediction platform Polymarket. He has expressed that he primarily relies on endorsement income, channeling most of his direct football earnings into investment opportunities. Barkley’s interest in startups began after reading Peter Thiel’s influential book, Zero to One, and he actively engages with startup founders before making investment decisions.

The recent funding round for Crusoe includes participation from several prominent investors, but details about how Barkley became involved remain undisclosed. His commitment to innovation aligns with Crusoe’s mission to “activate energy for intelligence,” reflecting his broader goals of long-term wealth creation and engagement with cutting-edge technology.

With the increasing prominence of AI, Crusoe positions itself as a leader in the sector, capitalizing on the growing demand for robust AI infrastructure. The successful funding round demonstrates strong investor confidence in both the company and the future of AI technology.

As the landscape of artificial intelligence continues to evolve, Barkley’s entry into this space highlights the intersection of sports and technology, where athletes are increasingly taking on roles as investors and influencers in the tech world.
