A generous gift of $250,000 from Unison Bank has significantly enhanced campus life at the University of Jamestown, leading to the establishment of The Well Coffee Shop within the newly inaugurated Reuben and Clarice Liechty Center for Faith and Life. Officially opened this fall, The Well is designed to serve as more than just a coffee bar; it aims to become a vibrant hub for student and community interaction.
Located strategically between the historic Voorhees Chapel and the Badal Nafus Student Union, The Well is quickly gaining popularity as a gathering place. Brett Moser, the university’s vice president of development and alumni relations, expressed gratitude for Unison Bank’s support, stating, “We are especially grateful to Unison Bank for their generosity which helped turn this vision into reality. It is the generosity of others that turned the space into something meaningful and something to be enjoyed for decades to come.”
The Well is situated within the Liechty Center, which also houses the Unruh School of Character in Leadership, offering conference rooms, faculty offices, and collaborative study areas. The name “The Well” reflects the university’s faith-based mission, symbolizing a venue for refreshment, reflection, and spiritual growth. It serves as a contemporary “well” where students and community members can come together, rejuvenating both body and spirit.
In discussing the significance of the gift, Kelly Rachel, president and CEO of Unison Bank, emphasized that the investment extends beyond coffee. “We were excited about creating a space where students feel cared for, energized and supported,” Rachel noted. “When students have a place that nourishes both their minds and their spirits, they’re more equipped to dream bigger, work harder and build the futures God is calling them toward.”
Founded in Jamestown in 1965, Unison Bank has a longstanding commitment to supporting education and community initiatives. Rachel articulated the bank’s core philosophy, saying, “We give back because helping others achieve their dreams is at the core of who we are.” She added, “The boldest change we hope to spark is a culture of intentionality where students are living with purpose, pursuing their callings with confidence and building a community that lifts each other up.”
As students gather at The Well, not only do they enjoy quality coffee, but they also forge ideas and friendships. The university highlighted that this space is rapidly evolving into a venue where students can pause, pray, and connect with one another, as well as with the deeper purpose of their college journey.
