The Fairview Stagecrafters & Thespian Troupe 8671 will present the comedy “Penny For Your Thoughts” from November 14 to 16, 2023, at Fairview High School’s Frank W. Barr Auditorium. This whimsical play is expected to resonate with anyone who has ever found themselves overthinking a situation.
Director Craig Cohan, an English teacher at Fairview High School, described the play as “delightful, a little cheesy, and a little funny.” Drawing inspiration from the Pixar film “Inside Out,” Cohan explained that the story explores how a misunderstanding between a couple leads to a humorous internal battle among the protagonist’s emotions. He noted, “This is like the adult version where the girlfriend mishears her boyfriend, and then all we see are her emotions on stage with her and how they compete.”
Exploring Relationships Through Humor
“Penny For Your Thoughts” features a cast of 15 actors who bring to life the quirky voices inside the main character, Penny Ramsey, as they navigate issues of love, loyalty, and decision-making. The play is described as a romantic comedy that highlights the hilarity of human flaws and misunderstandings.
Sophomore Autumn Cuscire, a cast member, shared her enthusiasm for being part of the Stagecrafters. “I enjoy being in Stagecrafters because I love all of the people and performing in general. There’s a great environment here at Fairview, and I really enjoy being in the shows,” she said.
Another cast member, senior Grace Wering, expressed her appreciation for Cohan’s direction, stating, “I love doing plays with Mr. Cohan because we are a real family. Every day makes me excited to come, and seeing our play come together is one of my biggest joys in life.”
Cohan emphasized the family-like atmosphere within the troupe, which he believes enhances the overall experience for the young performers. He remarked, “We half-jokingly say, ‘We never lose.’ We always have an audience, and we always put on successful shows.”
A Community Tradition
The Fairview Stagecrafters & Thespian Troupe 8671 has a longstanding tradition of providing quality theatrical productions that engage the community. This upcoming performance promises to be another entertaining addition to their repertoire.
The cast has been rehearsing diligently, and Cohan has infused his rehearsals with humor, often sharing his “horrible dad jokes” to keep the atmosphere light and enjoyable. “It’s so dumb, it makes me laugh. The cast rolls their eyes, but they get the humor and they’re having fun with it,” he said.
Tickets for “Penny For Your Thoughts” can be purchased at the door or through the Fairview High School box office, providing an opportunity for the community to support local talent and enjoy a night of laughter.
