The City of Hazleton launched its annual Christmas Village on December 7, 2023, featuring a festive parade with Santa and Mrs. Claus, alongside local vendors showcasing their unique products. This event, hosted at the Hazleton Art League, will continue over three Sundays in December, offering residents a vibrant holiday experience.
The Christmas Village includes a range of local artisans selling items such as jewelry, candles, baked goods, and artwork. Each Sunday, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet children and families, providing a perfect opportunity for festive photographs. The parade route will change weekly, enhancing the excitement and engagement within the community.
Samantha Kronstadt, a local entrepreneur from Tamaqua, expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the event. She opened her small business, Sealed With a Kiss Cupcakes, in June, operating from the Kitchen Incubator. “You’re supporting small businesses and you’re supporting small business in the community, so it’s a great way to meet the community and the community to meet you,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of local engagement.
Community members eagerly awaited the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, including families such as Arron Garica and his children, who were among those enjoying the festive atmosphere at CANDO Park. The event not only aims to spread holiday cheer but also serves to bolster local commerce.
Kronstadt noted the networking opportunities that arise from the Christmas Village. “You learn about other events,” she said, emphasizing the importance of community connections. Her involvement with the Hazleton Art League has fostered further participation, encouraging others to engage in local initiatives.
Another local vendor, Marybeth Scarcella, has been crafting knitted scarves and hats since childhood. She discovered the event through social media and felt compelled to contribute. “I wanted to be a part of the community to participate with this for the holidays,” Scarcella stated, expressing hope for the event’s return in subsequent years.
The Christmas Village is part of the broader Hazleton for the Holidays celebration, a collaborative effort involving various organizations, including CAN DO, the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, and the Hazleton Public Library. This partnership aims to enhance community spirit and support local businesses.
The Christmas festivities will resume on December 14 and 21, from 15:00 to 19:00. Residents are encouraged to join in the celebrations, connecting with neighbors while supporting local artisans and vendors. As the holiday season unfolds, the Hazleton Christmas Village promises to be a cornerstone of community engagement and festive spirit.
