The latest update for Helldivers 2, titled “Into the Unjust” version 5.0.2, introduces significant enhancements aimed at improving stealth gameplay. Released on January 22, 2026, this update not only modifies the mechanics of suppressed weapons but also makes the slimmed-down PC build the default version for players.
Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind the game, emphasizes that these updates will allow players to “bang bang less,” a phrase that encapsulates the focus on stealth. The update aims to provide players with better tactical control and reduced detection rates, reinforcing the notion that “democracy doesn’t always need to shout.”
Key Features of the Update
One of the most notable changes includes a substantial reduction in the noise radius for firing suppressed weapons, which has been decreased by 50%. Additionally, the detection radius for certain enemy units, including Impalers, Chargers, and Berserkers, has been adjusted to enhance stealth operations. The developers also addressed photosensitivity issues linked to the M-1000 Maxigun, modifying its muzzle flash to improve player comfort during gameplay.
To further test these new stealth capabilities, Arrowhead has introduced “Commando missions,” where players will venture deep behind enemy lines without the usual aerial support. These missions require players to deploy reinforcements in advance, adding a layer of strategy and urgency to gameplay.
Transition to Slim PC Build
The update marks a significant shift for PC users as Arrowhead officially makes the slim PC build the default option. This build, which was initially available through a public technical beta, allows players to save approximately 131GB of storage space. Arrowhead has reassured players that the full-sized version will remain accessible for a short transition period, enabling users to switch back if they choose. However, the developers plan to phase out the larger build permanently in the near future.
The new Commando missions are set to go live later today, coinciding with the launch of the delayed Helldivers 2 Redacted Regiment Warbond, scheduled for 14:00 CET (1pm GMT / 5am PST / 8am EST).
Arrowhead has hinted at more updates in the pipeline, stating, “there’s much more to come in February and beyond.” As the game’s roadmap evolves, Arrowhead’s CEO has indicated that players can expect significant challenges ahead, promising that “a lot of Helldivers will die” as they navigate the new gameplay dynamics.
With these updates, Helldivers 2 continues to evolve, offering players new ways to engage with its thrilling universe while enhancing the overall gaming experience.
